Midfielder Marko Grujic completed a season-long loan move to Portuguese Primeira Liga side FC Porto on Tuesday.
Grujic, 24, spent the last two seasons on loan at German Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin. He had recently featured in Liverpool’s two Carabao Cup ties against Lincoln City and Arsenal, scoring in the 7-2 win against Lincoln.
The Serbian’s deal was completed before the Primeira Liga deadline passed while Porto also welcomed Chelsea’s Malang Sarr and Felipe Anderson from West Ham. Both players were signed on season-long loan deals, just like Grujic.
FC Porto are the defending Portuguese Primeira Liga champions and have taken six points from their opening three games of the new campaign. They will also compete in the group stage of this season’s Champions League. Porto were drawn in Group C alongside Manchester City, Marseille and Olympiacos.
Grujic is a Serbia international having made his debut for his country’s senior team in 2016. He was also a part of Serbia’s squad that won the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Standing at just under 6′ 3″, Grujic offers a significant physical presence in midfield and was very highly thought of when on loan at Hertha Berlin for two seasons. Grujic scored 9 goals and provided 2 assists in the German top-flight over two years, making 49 starts for Die Alte Dame.
Since he is going out on another loan deal, it seems that Grujic’s long-term future is very unlikely to be at Anfield.
We wish Marko all the best in his Portuguese adventure over the coming season.
