Would the signing of Sofyan Amrabat be enough to seal top 4 for Liverpool?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his squad this winter following their nightmare start to the new season. The Reds won just six of their opening 14 league games before domestic football paused for the 2022 World Cup, and it means bookmakers are now pricing Liverpool at a huge 40/1 to win the title this season. Even fans who claim their casino bonus 200 will be reluctant to bet on Liverpool winning the title this campaign as they’re already 15 points adrift of the Premier League leaders.

With the title gone for another season, Liverpool are now focused on getting themselves back in the top four. They are currently sitting sixth in the table – seven points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand. Despite their position in the table, bookmakers are still backing the Merseysiders to finish in the Champions League qualification places.

Most betting site have Liverpool priced as the third-favourites to claim a top four spot this season. Manchester City are almost nailed on at odds of 1/100 while surprise package Arsenal are priced at 1/16 to get themselves back in the Champions League. Then comes Liverpool at odds of 4/7, ahead of Tottenham at 6/5 and Man Utd at 5/4.

However, Klopp will know his side are likely to face a fierce battle to finish in the top four and the German coach is expected to dip into the transfer market this winter to reinforce his squad.

Midfielder needed

A new central midfielder is going to be Klopp’s priority. The likes of Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson have been outstanding servants for Liverpool and helped secure a huge amount of success for the club in recent years. However, they are all around the age of 30, and with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all expected to leave at the end of the season, new blood is needed in the middle of the park.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Jude Bellingham and are expected to go all-out to sign the Borussia Dortmund star, but any potential move won’t happen until next summer. The Reds are also reportedly in talks to sign Benfica ace Enzo Fernandez but again any move is being lined-up for next summer.

The Merseysiders need reinforcements now and widespread reports suggests Klopp has identified Sofyan Amrabat as the man he wants. The 26-year-old has starred for Morocco at the World Cup and his performances in Qatar have seemingly persuaded Liverpool to launch a move to sign the Fiorentina star this winter.

Transfer talks are already well underway with his representatives and many reports suggest that a move worth around £20m could be on the cards in January. More negotiations are expected to take place after the World Cup but he’d be an excellent signing for the Reds if they could get this deal over the line.

Amrabat has been outstanding at the World Cup and would provide stiff competition for Fabinho in the defensive midfield role if he does join Liverpool next month. His addition to Klopp’s squad could be the catalyst it needs to push on and secure a top four place this season.

Liverpool could also benefit from another attacker following the news of Luis Diaz’s injury setback, but shoring up the midfield is Klopp’s priority and Amrabat would be a terrific solution.
