Liverpool’s Pre-Season Tour Concludes: Loss After Thrilling Battle Against Bayern Munich

As the Reds concluded their Far East tour, a rollercoaster match against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich kept fans on the edge of their seats. Goals, drama, and plenty of entertainment characterised this final pre-season outing.

Not to be outdone, Bayern had their moments, hitting the bar via Benjamin Savard. But it was Liverpool, driven by newly-minted captain Virgil van Dijk’s header from an Andy Robertson’s corner, who extended the lead after 27 minutes.

Despite the Reds’ dominance, they paid the price for defensive lapses. Serge Gnabry punished the English side twice before half-time, once by himself and then setting up Leroy Sané to draw level. Signs of defensive concern were evident.

After a more scrappy start to the second half, Liverpool regained the lead with Luis Díaz’s brilliance. The substitute’s crossfield pass to Mo Salah and his subsequent finish showcased his class.

With 10 minutes remaining, the pendulum swung again. Josip Stanišić converted after a save from Alisson Becker, setting up a dramatic finish. Franz Krätzig’s stunning stoppage-time winner for Bayern capped off a thrilling pre-season contest.

• Joël Matip: Troubled by Gnabry, unable to match his pace and precision. The upgrade Konate offers now clear as day.
• Virgil van Dijk: Dominant with a towering header, but too many interventions needed. Klopp may expect more.
• Andy Robertson: Perfect delivery for Van Dijk’s header, troubled later on.
