Liverpool ‘Hold Talks’ Over the Signing of Lucas Beraldo

Liverpool reportedly ‘hold talks’ for Sao Paulo wonderkid, Lucas Beraldo. With the January transfer window just around the corner, the rumour mill has already started spinning.

Over the course of summer, Liverpool made a handful of additions to their engine room, with Dominik Szoboszlai being the standout thus far.

Search for Van Dijk’s Partner

But now the Reds have made solid additions to the center of the park, they seem to be vying for a long-term partner for captain, Virgil Van Dijk.

There have been a plethora of names thrown in the ring with the likes of Gonçalo Inacio and Lucas Beraldo all being thrown around.

However, it now seems as if Jurgen Klopp has started to make a move for Beraldo.

This is according to the Sunday People who state that they have ‘held talks’ with the player.

This comes as somewhat of a surprise as they were only first linked with the young South American last month.

Despite this, at just 20 years old, Beraldo fits the criteria of player that Klopp is on the lookout for.

He has appeared 45 times this season for São Paulo and has managed to score one goal.

The number of games that the defender has played is unheard of for someone who is aged just 20 years old.

However, this does add the benefit of experience and maturity to the defender.

Although his play style is far from perfect, mentorship from Van Dijk would be an ideal situation for both the player and Liverpool.

The defender would undoubtedly learn a lot from the Netherlands international and become an even better player.

He would also likely slot into the squad very well as players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Alexis Mac Allister are all from South America themselves.

It seems as if the Reds are building a South American base in order to form a bond between all the players.

Klopp’s Move for Beraldo

However, the Reds aren’t the only team competing for the transfer of the defender.

Newcastle have also reportedly entered the race for the Brazilian.

The Magpies also have a very South American squad with the likes of Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes hailing from Brazil.

So, if the Reds do decide to go for Beraldo, they will likely have to fight off other Premier League rivals for his signature.
