Arne Slot Confirms Major Liverpool Injury Blow Ahead of Man City Clash

Liverpool are finally back in action this weekend as they face an away trip to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.

A win would see the Reds book a spot in the final four of the competition and return to Wembley for the third year on the bounce.

However, there are a number of injury concerns on the cards. Arne Slot provided the latest in his pre-match press conference…

Alisson Injury Blow

One major concern is over the fitness of first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who picked up an injury in the 4-0 win over Galatasaray.

“He will not be part of the PSG games as well; he will be out for a little while longer,” said Slot, “Towards the end of the season, we expect him to be fit.”

That definitely rules Alisson out of both legs of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final against PSG, as well as the Fulham clash sandwiched between those ties.

Summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili now has a huge opportunity to not just impress, but cement his place as Liverpool’s new first-choice goalkeeper.

Since arriving from Valencia for £30m, the 25-year-old hasn’t really had a strong run of games.

Positive News

There was some good news for Liverpool though. Arne Slot confirmed that both Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak are available for selection again.

“It will definitely be too fast to expect him [Isak] in the starting line-up. He trained with us yesterday for the first time and today for the second time after exactly 101 days, I know this because it was told to me. So, it will take a bit of time to give him a lot of minutes. We will make sure we do the right thing in terms of building him up in minutes, but it’s a very good thing to have him on the training ground again. It would be even a better thing to have him available for games, that’s for sure,” Slot said.

“He [Salah] is [fit]. He trained with us yesterday, he will train with us today and is available for the game tomorrow.”
