Liverpool Transfer News: Said El Mala Pushes for Koln Exit Amid Summer Interest
Liverpool’s search for attacking reinforcements has moved into a new phase, with FC Koln winger Said El Mala emerging as one of the names under consideration.
The 19-year-old is attracting attention after an eye-catching campaign in Germany, where he scored 13 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances last season. With Liverpool expected to miss out on Yan Diomande, El Mala is now viewed as one of several alternatives being assessed, alongside Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Lille wide player Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Liverpool Interest in Said El Mala
Andoni Iraola has arrived at Liverpool with a significant rebuild already underway. The £34.5m signing of Victor Munoz has given the new head coach his first major attacking addition, while Jeremy Jacquet is also expected to officially link up with the squad in due course.
There may yet be further change in the forward line, particularly with Mohamed Salah’s long Liverpool spell potentially nearing its conclusion as his contract expires this summer.
That context makes the interest in Said El Mala worth watching. Liverpool have been exploring younger, high-upside attacking options, and El Mala’s profile fits neatly into that recruitment model. He is quick, direct, productive and still at an age where significant development is expected.
Koln Winger Wants Summer Move
According to Sky Germany’s Marlon Irlbacher, Said El Mala is still pushing for a move this summer, despite the market around him being quieter than earlier in the window.

That stance keeps the situation open, even though FC Koln remain in a strong contractual position. El Mala is regarded as one of the club’s most valuable young assets and has also attracted interest from Chelsea, Brentford and Brighton.
Brentford previously tried to agree a deal, with Koln initially hopeful that a move to the Premier League could be finalised. However, terms were never agreed between the player and the London club, leaving El Mala in Germany.
One key factor in the breakdown was Brentford’s reluctance to include El Mala’s 21-year-old brother Malek in the agreement, something requested by the player’s family.
Koln Background and Career Rise
El Mala’s rise has been steady rather than sudden. He came through Linner SV, a club also represented by his father Mohammed, before spells in the youth systems of KFC Uerdingen 05, Borussia Monchengladbach and TSV Meerbusch.
His breakthrough came after joining Viktoria Koln in 2023. FC Koln signed him a year later, before loaning him back for the 2024/25 season, where he delivered 13 goals and five assists.
He has also made an impact internationally, earning seven caps for Germany’s Under-21 side and finishing as joint-top scorer at last summer’s Under-19 European Championship with four goals.
Cheaper Diomande Alternative
For Liverpool, the appeal is clear. Diomande had been seen as a leading target, but with that pursuit now expected to fall short, the club must identify alternatives who can provide similar dynamism without requiring the same level of investment.
Said El Mala may not arrive with the same immediate status as Diomande, but his numbers, age and development curve make him an intriguing option.
Whether Liverpool advance their interest remains to be seen. For now, El Mala’s desire to leave Koln has ensured his name stays firmly in the transfer conversation.
