Scouser Tommies: End Of This Line

Scouser Tommies: End Of This Line

Jim Boardman and Jay Reid are back and feeling a little bit bruised after an event that hasn’t happened since Paul Konchesky was the star of Roy Hodgson’s version of LFC. Meanwhile, as what has been an amazing ride under Jurgen Klopp stutters towards the end, it sounds like Liverpool have lined up his successor. There are mixed feelings from fans about Arne Slot as the next boss of Liverpool but as Jay and Jim discuss, all they have been hearing – from people who know Dutch football and know Liverpool – points to him being exactly who the Reds need. It certainly feels like there’s something to look forward to after a few weeks no Reds want to look back at. A rare derby defeat at Goodison Park has left the blue quarter of Liverpool parading around like they’ve won a trophy and the rest of us feeling like we’ve lost three. Everton invited their neighbours to their now traditional just-avoided-relegation party this year, and Liverpool brought gifts. The neighbours will say they ended the Reds’ title hopes, but Liverpool were already done. All good things must come to an end and in football they often end before they are mathematically impossible, so whilst at the time of recording there was still a theoretical chance of the title, the miracles required were way too far-fetched. Especially when one of them was for Liverpool to find their form again. So Klopp wasn’t to get his fairy-tale ending, but maybe now the pressure is off and the players he puts out could try and entertain us instead of everyone else. Next up is a trip to West Ham, and our old mate David Moyes, so the potential is definitely there for the nightmare to continue. Especially if we dwell too much on the fact that there is still a mathematical chance that Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League. It’s not the best of endings to the last season under the German, but it does still end with a trophy, and there is still time to settle some scores on the pitch. Learn more about your ad choices. What is the correct wage for any player? It’s very subjective even in the best of circumstances, but the negotiations between Mo Salah’s camp and Liverpool football club involve several added layers that increase the complexity exponentially. THE WAGE SCALE The “wage scale” and how far Mo’s new deal can be outside of that without […]

Against Arsenal, Liverpool had one of their slowest first halves of the season. It seemed like the Gunners had a real foothold in the game, and although they didn’t create much, neither did Liverpool. But we will not be stopped. No matter what you throw at these boys, they’ll plant their feet, grit their teeth, […]

Arsenal 0 – 2 Liverpool – The Player Ratings Alisson Becker – 8.5 A pretty routine first half for the giant Brazilian, with possession of the ball more apparent than anything else. Made a great stop early in the second half as the game opened up. Didn’t have much to do after that, but his […]

Liverpool may have lost to Inter Milan at Anfield, but the Under Pressure boys soon to put to bed any doubt that the Reds deserved to go through with a comprehensive run down of the key stats from the two legged tie: 3.1 xG to 0.8 coupled with FIVE big chances to the Italian side’s […]

I want Mohamed Salah to sign a new contract with Liverpool, as he’s the world’s best player, performing to the peak of his powers. He is perhaps the most remarkable signing in Liverpool’s history, and the success that has been garnered (during his stay), is as much to do with him as anyone else. This […]

In a game where Liverpool actually had slightly less possession, it was a clear case of managing the match accordingly. The Reds rarely had to stretch themselves, and short of the odd and inevitable moment, they cruised to a comfortable 0-2 victory. Brighton are in a slump, not a free fall slump, but a worrying […]

Luis Diaz The South American flyer was at times sensational today, and has quickly become a player that the fans adore. His unpredictable nature, movement of the ball and ability to engage defenders was very much apparent today. He scored a goal, could have had more, could have been supplied more efficiently & was a […]

Liverpool didn’t have too much trouble at the Amex Stadium as they earned a comfortable 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Mo Salah. But what were the key stats as they got back to 3 points of Manchester City, at least until Monday. An easy victory https://twitter.com/TheAthleticUK/status/1502643899273203718?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet This wasn’t a difficult day […]

Alisson Becker – 8.0 A nice solid, and uneventful game for Ali. A great stop towards the end showed his supreme ability to stay focused. Got clattered, but still was great with the ball at his feet and commanded his area. Had a busy last few moments, and the collision probably made him even more […]

Watching Luis Diaz this past month has driven home the logic in reshaping this Liverpool squad. With any elite group of players, there simply has to be a moment where peak becomes decline, and strong decisions have to made. In the case of this superb Liverpool group, there are now certain players that could inevitably […]
