Predicting Liverpool's lineup for tonight's European tie in Belgium

Liverpool are in Belgium to take on KRC Genk in the Champions League tonight. We’ve had a look at the likely starting eleven Jurgen Klopp will be going with.

The big news yesterday was that both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip were left back on Merseyside as they were not fit to travel. Alexander-Arnold is recovering from a virus while Matip suffered a knee injury in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday. It’s hoped that both players will be back in contention for Spurs’ visit to Anfield next weekend.

Mohamed Salah did travel which is great news after the Egyptian missed the United game through injury.

Unfortunately for Xherdan Shaqiri, he is still unavailable for selection due to an ongoing injury problem for the Swiss international.

With all of the above in mind, let’s take a look at the likely starting lineup for The Reds in Genk tonight.

Alisson returned to Jurgen Klopp’s first eleven at Old Trafford and he will continue between the sticks in Belgium tonight.

At right-back, Joe Gomez is likely to step in for Alexander-Arnold as Ki-Jana Hoever is away on international duty at the FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Netherlands. James Milner could be used there either but I think Gomez will get the nod with Dejan Lovren playing in the middle instead of Matip.

Even if he doesn’t play in defence, Milner could get his start in midfield, regardless. Naby Keita had an impressive cameo appearance on Sunday and it’s rumoured he will start tonight. I think it will be a midfield trio of Milner, Keita and Gini Wijnaldum.

The forward line will probably see one first-choice player being rested. Klopp will probably want Mohamed Salah to get some gametime in before Spurs so the Egyptian will probably start. I think Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino will be the other two starters in attack.

Predicted Liverpool lineup (4-3-3) Vs KRC Genk: Alisson; Gomez, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Milner, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Origi
