Given they are top of the Premier League table and have yet to taste defeat in the competition, it is no surprise that there are a number of Liverpool players in contention for the PFA Player of the Year Award this season.
Here is a look at four men who are prominent in the betting for that award, and an argument for backing each of them to lift the trophy.
Sadio Mane – 6/4
Sadio Mane is the favourite with the bookmakers at 6/4 to win the 2019/20 PFA Player of the Year, which reflects exactly how good he has been this season.
Mane has scored 14 goals in all competitions in the campaign and he could be on course for breaking his record tally of 26 goals in a season for Liverpool.
The Reds star has just about everything you’d want in a forward. He has also unselfishly worked very well in that front line alongside Roberto Firminho and Mo Salah, therefore, he is the rightful favourite in the betting.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8/1
Trent Alexander-Arnold is second only to Kevin De Bruyne in the assists standings this season – which says a lot about how dangerous he has been from his right-back position.
The young Englishman is the modern-day full-back who is just as important going forward as he is in preventing the opposition from scoring. At 8/1 in the betting for 2019/20 PFA Player of the Year, he represents a great value bet.
Alexander-Arnold has been with Liverpool ever since he was six years old, so he is a great success story for the academy. He has arguably been the best full-back in the Premier League this season which is some achievement given his age.
Mo Salah – 14/1
Mo Salah has been so consistent over the last three years that it is easy to take for granted how good his performances on the field for Liverpool have been in the 2019/20Â campaign.
The Egyptian has 13 goals to his name this season in all competitions, which is a tidy total at this stage of the year. Many punters will feel he is too big at 14/1 to win the award for the second time in the last three years.
Virgil van Dijk – 20/1
Last season was a brilliant year for Virgil van Dijk; not only was he honoured by his peers by winning the 2018/19 PFA Player of the Year, but he was also named the man of the match for his performance in the Champions League final against Tottenham.
The Dutchman was excellent in that final in Madrid, as he was a wall that Spurs simply could not break down. With van Dijk in the back four, Liverpool are going to have a great chance of defending their European crown where they have Champions League betting odds of 4/1.
Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, and Dejan Lovren have all suffered injuries at various points this season, but van Dijk has remained a solid rock and he deserves a lot of credit for his performances. It is a surprise to see him as big as 20/1 to win the PFA Player of the Year crown for the second straight year.
With so much football to be played from now until when the award is handed out in April, the award is evidently up for grabs by a number of Liverpool players.
