Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum says the squad has “learned from the mistakes” they made in recent years and used that experience in the comeback win over West Ham United on Monday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side was 2-1 down in the second half before fighting back to take all three points in a 3-2 win. Wijnaldum opened the scoring on the night with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané providing the comeback goals in the second half.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the win, Wijnaldum said:
“We just want to continue this run we’re in right now. We know what we have to do, we don’t want to leave it with this, we just want to carry on and try to keep the good momentum.
“We work really hard for it and hopefully we can keep it until the end of the season.”
Wijnaldum also highlighted the solid team unit Liverpool have now and how they’ve all learned from past mistakes.
“I also have to say we work really hard for that, to have it the way it is right now.
“If you go back a few years ago, we made mistakes. But we learned from the mistakes we made and I think that’s why we are so good right now – we have a team that has played with each other for a few years.
“During the years we learned a lot and that’s why we are so good right now.”
The Dutch midfielder is likely to start at Watford on Saturday evening as The Reds look to move within 9 points of Premier League glory. With Jordan Henderson injured, it will be up to Wijnaldum, Fabinho and, probably, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to orchestrate things from midfield for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Klopp will then most likely heavily rotate the starting eleven for the FA Cup clash at Chelsea on Tuesday night.
