Liverpool had another busy weekend, putting in a great performance while winning at West Ham. There was a developing transfer story too.
Reds win at London Stadium
On Sunday evening, Jürgen Klopp’s Reds dominated West Ham at London Stadium, coming away with all three points after a 3-1 victory. Scoreless at half time, Liverpool had struggled to exert complete control in the opening period. However, some brilliance from Mohamed Salah changed all of that in the second half. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri also deserve huge credit for their part in Salah’s second goal – one of the best counter-attacking breaks you will ever see. Gini Wijnaldum scored late on to put Liverpool three up. Craig Dawson bagged a consolation goal for the hosts shortly before the end.
Liverpool won after starting without both Sadio Mané and Bobby Firmino. Mané was out with a minor issue while Firmino was on the bench.
Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Klopp confirmed Mané’s injury:
“It happened in the game against Tottenham a couple of days ago.
“Nothing too serious but serious enough to not be involved today.”
Thankfully, as it happened, Liverpool managed to get the win without Mané.
Preston centre-back joins Liverpool
During the West Ham game on Sunday, news broke of ongoing negotiations between Liverpool and Preston North End. The Reds were looking to secure the signature of 25-year-old centre-back Ben Davies.
Shortly after the match, James Pearce tweeted confirmation of the deal which sees Liverpool centre-back Sepp van den Berg move the other way in a loan deal to the Championship side.
