Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Make Malo Gusto Loan Move

After announcing the arrival of Bradley Barcola yesterday, it seemed that Liverpool were set for a quiet transfer deadline day.

However, that didn’t stop them from making one last surprise push to sign a player today – and this one will surprise you.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool made a late move to sign Chelsea defender Malo Gusto on loan for the season.

Speaking on X, he said: “Liverpool made a final push today to sign Malo Gusto on loan, but the attempt ended without success.”

“The Reds were only willing to consider a loan with no mandatory buy clause, while Chelsea were pushing for a permanent transfer.”

“Liverpool simply don’t have the financial means to make a permanent deal happen.”

Why do Liverpool Want Gusto?

Right-back remains one of the weakest areas of Andoni Iraola’s squad. Conor Bradley is still recovering from a serious ACL injury and Jeremie Frimpong has had a woeful start to the campaign.

Earlier in the summer, the Reds were linked with a move for Brentford’s Michael Kayode but the Italian defender signed a new contract. Marco Palestra was also mentioned, but he has since ended up joining Chelsea.

It feels like a bit of a panic move from Liverpool, who have come under serious scrutiny for the reckless nature of their transfer planning this summer.

But as it stands, they will finish the window just with the arrivals of Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, Ronald Araujo and Bradley Barcola.

Further up the pitch, they saw bids rejected for both Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr, but they are set to run out of time on both of those potential deals.
