Scouser Tommies: End Of This Line

Scouser Tommies: End Of This Line

Jim Boardman and Jay Reid are back and feeling a little bit bruised after an event that hasn’t happened since Paul Konchesky was the star of Roy Hodgson’s version of LFC. Meanwhile, as what has been an amazing ride under Jurgen Klopp stutters towards the end, it sounds like Liverpool have lined up his successor. There are mixed feelings from fans about Arne Slot as the next boss of Liverpool but as Jay and Jim discuss, all they have been hearing – from people who know Dutch football and know Liverpool – points to him being exactly who the Reds need. It certainly feels like there’s something to look forward to after a few weeks no Reds want to look back at. A rare derby defeat at Goodison Park has left the blue quarter of Liverpool parading around like they’ve won a trophy and the rest of us feeling like we’ve lost three. Everton invited their neighbours to their now traditional just-avoided-relegation party this year, and Liverpool brought gifts. The neighbours will say they ended the Reds’ title hopes, but Liverpool were already done. All good things must come to an end and in football they often end before they are mathematically impossible, so whilst at the time of recording there was still a theoretical chance of the title, the miracles required were way too far-fetched. Especially when one of them was for Liverpool to find their form again. So Klopp wasn’t to get his fairy-tale ending, but maybe now the pressure is off and the players he puts out could try and entertain us instead of everyone else. Next up is a trip to West Ham, and our old mate David Moyes, so the potential is definitely there for the nightmare to continue. Especially if we dwell too much on the fact that there is still a mathematical chance that Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League. It’s not the best of endings to the last season under the German, but it does still end with a trophy, and there is still time to settle some scores on the pitch. Learn more about your ad choices. It hasn’t been the title defence that many Liverpool fans would have been expecting at the start of the season, as Jurgen Klopp’s side are in a race to finish in the Champions League places. However, the Reds remain among the favourites to fight back next season, as they are considered by many of the […]

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has had to withdraw from the England squad for this summer’s European Championship. The 22-year-old had just been confirmed as part of Gareth Southgate’s squad earlier this week. He then started England’s friendly win over Austria on Wednesday night. However, he limped off with an injury late in the game. Today, […]

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold started went off injured late in England’s 1-0 win over Austria on Wednesday night. Bukayo Saka’s second-half goal was enough to give Gareth Southgate’s side the win as they prepare for next week’s European Championship. However, the late injury to Alexander-Arnold put a dampener on things for England going into the […]

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson have both been selected as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros. Southgate announced his final 26-man panel on Tuesday ahead of the international tournament that gets underway on June 11th. Incredibly, there had been some doubts over whether Alexander-Arnold was going to make Southgate’s squad but, […]

After arriving from Southampton in Jurgen Klopp’s first summer, it was rumoured that Sadio Mane was in fact the Mario Gotze alternative. Gotze was a prodigy whilst playing under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, and the chance to reunite seemed logical. Sadio Mane, a flying winger and sometimes front man had a sensational yet inconsistent side […]

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp won the final Manager of the Month award of the season after his team’s strong finish to the campaign. Klopp and his team managed to finish third in the Premier League, taking eight wins from their final ten games. Liverpool actually won their last five matches in a row. All of […]

On the surface, the signing of Kostas Tsimikas really hasn’t worked out for Liverpool. Signed from Olympiacos in the summer of 2020, the Greek left-back — whose acquisition was aimed at giving Andy Robertson the opportunity to rest — only made seven appearances in all competitions in his first season on Merseyside. Meanwhile, Robertson played […]

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp believes The Reds have signed a centre-back with “massive potential” in Ibrahima Konaté. Konaté, 22, joins from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig after Liverpool triggered his release clause of around £35 million. The 6’4″ defender is currently with the French U21 squad as they prepare to face the Netherlands in the UEFA […]

For an emergency centre-half, Nat Phillips has become surprisingly divisive. At least that’s the impression I get from my Twitter feed. There are those who believe he’s performed well enough in a time of crisis to merit a place in Liverpool’s centre-back rotation moving forward. And then there are those who acknowledge the contribution he’s […]

Gini Wijnaldum is set to leave Anfield soon – and he will almost certainly join Barcelona in the coming season. Georginio Gregion Emile “Gini” Wijnaldum spent his last five seasons with Liverpool, playing almost 180 league games with the Reds and scoring 16 times in the process. He helped the team win its first Premier […]
